What makes Ecuador and Galapagos a great destination

Why Ecuador

Surely Ecuador has some of the most stunning places to offer in Latin America. The Andes mountains of Ecuador, where the top of Mt Chimborazo is the earth's furthest point from its own center and lamas are still a mode of transport for the locals,  house in the northern part, the city of Quito and the famous Avenue of the Volcanoes. From here it is easy to go climbing, trekking, water rafting in the mountains. You can experience a wonderful day, eating at one of the colonial haciendas with horse back riding as an optional.

As a contrast to the Andes, Ecuador is also home to the Amazon rainforest. During guided tours through the jungle you can do great wildlife-watching, especially bird-watching (more than 350 species have been found so far).

Nothing is as special as the Galapagos islands, these volcanic islands created perfect living circumstances for animals you don't find anywhere else. Darwin spent a lot of time here and wasn't he lucky! Here you can see birds, leguanas, colonies of sea lions, all close up and personal. The islands are simply stunning. With small boats that take you to the islands and with the help of a great guide, you can get very close to the animals who live here, they have no fear of humans. As the islands are so special, there are only a limited number of visitors allowed each year.

Apart from the great nature in Ecuador and Galapagos, you can also find beautiful cities. Quito and Cuenca are both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The cities are characterized by beautiful houses in the old Spanish colonial style, cobblestoned streets and old churches. We hope to share our Ecuador and the Galapagos with you and your clients.

Overnight at Mansion del Angel in Superior double Rooms.
Hotel: Mansión del Angel
Description: An old Mansion built at the turn of the last Century has been completely restored in order to achieve the former splendor of the Ecuadorian Republican era. The Mansion used to be the home of an Ecuadorian Tobacco Tycoon, who entertained his guests and buyers lavishly in the large spaces on the Ground Floor, while he and his family utilized the First Floor as their private residence.
The property is part of the Architectural Historic Society of the downtown area of the Capital according to the World Heritage Foundation, which considered Quito to be the first city of the organization according to UNESCO.
The Mansion as well as the entire surrounding neighborhood was designed by an Italian Architect, who was influenced by the architectural style of his native country. Many homes and private houses in this particular area show the splendor and the excellent craftsmanship of this bygone era.
Boutique Hotel Mansion del Angel overlooks the well known Alameda Park and when passing through the park, the Historical Part of Downtown Quito may be reached within 10 minutes. The park is also the home of the first Astronomic Observatory.
A very detailed restoration took place and only the finest building materials were used in order to comply with the strict regulations imposed by the Patrimony. The building itself houses fourteen large, spacious and luxurious rooms and suites. No two are alike, each one different in size, color scheme and decoration. In addition to an inviting Reception Area, a beautiful and comfortable Salon for relaxation is available, where complimentary Afternoon Tea is served. Guests may enjoy Breakfast on the Ground Floor, even those who must depart in the very early morning hours.

Day 2
Quito-Cotopaxi
Leave Quito and drive along the scenic Pan-American Highway until you reach the lush páramo of Chasqui. Proceed into the park and drive to the base of the world's highest active volcano, the Cotopaxi.
The Cotopaxi National Park is an attractive area for nature lovers; admire its magnificent peaks which rise up to almost 6,000 meters.

Feel the fresh crisp air as you hike through this ecological sanctuary, overnight stay and dinner at the old Spanish-style hacienda, La Cienega.
Hotel: Hacienda La Cienega
Description: The oldest and most splendid colonial style hotel in Cotopaxi province, Ecuador, has belonged to the descendents of Marques of Maenza since the seventeenth century.
The terrain on which the hacienda is located was bought by landowner Don Matheo de la Escalera y Velasco in 1695.
The hacienda has played host to a number of important historical, social, political and scientific events on a national and international level. The wise French intellectual Carlos Maria de la Condamine arrived in Quito with Luis Godin y Pedro Bouger in 1736. Six years later, after two hundred years of inactivity, Volcano Cotopaxi erupted, provoking the scientists to move closer to the outskirts of the volcano. Carlos Maria took up residence in La Cienega, resulting in the beginning of a long and meaningful friendship between the academic and Marquez de Maenza.
Geological activity as a result of the eruption was extremely powerful, destroying a number of towns and communities. Amidst the earthquakes and aftershocks, the hacienda remained intact, most likely thanks to solidity of the structure with its two-metre thick walls.
The hacienda's first guest was Sir Alexander von Humboldt, who stayed there whilst carrying out a series of investigations in 1802.
The Marques family, romantic and strong archetypes of the colonial period, whose manorial house covered an astonishing six thousand metres (sixty-five feet), were fervent defenders of Simon Bolivar and the libertarian cause. Family members such as Manuel Matheu y Herrera, Francisco Xavier and Jose Xavier de Ascazubi were Heroes of the Independence, a number of whose activities took place within the four walls of the hacienda.
Mariscal de Ayucucho, Antonio Jose de Sucre and several presidents of the republican period such as the first president of Ecuador, Juan Jose Flores, signed the important Treaty of La Cienega here in the hacienda. Gabriel Garcia Moreno, Leonidas Plaza Gutierrez and Jose Velasco Ibarra are historical figures of the country who have resided at the hacienda.
Generation after generation, the hacienda has been inhabited by important personalities and great historical figures, leaving the residence glowing with an aura of grandeur.
In memory of those important figures, we, the present-day owners, welcome you to La Cienega and promise you an unforgettable experience here in our hotel hacienda surrounded by natural beautiful scenery in the heart of the Andes.

Hacienda Abraspungo, with its comfortable, charming and high level installations offers a personalized service in the ideal spot to enjoy the peace and beauty of the Andes.
The architectural style found here offers the best of traditional colonial design often used in the ancestral mansions and haciendas of Ecuador.
The Hacienda is adorned with old photographs and illustrations of Andean landscapes, which today constitutes as a testimony to eras gone by. The antiques on display in the social areas give a colonial flavour as well as a feel for the pre-Colombian cultures of the region. The visitor can truly appreciate the richness of the natural resources offered by the Chimborazo Province and Ecuador in general.

This ecotourism project includes the conservation of approximately over 82 square miles (53,500 acres - over 21,400 hectares ) of the most pristine Amazon Rain Forest within the Yasunì National Park, an important UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and the largest tract of tropical rain forest in Ecuador.
The lodge complex is located by the Anangucocha lake, within the unique ancestral territory of the Anangu Quichua Community, part of the Yasuni National Park. In the early 90' the community envisioned building their own lodge to provide themselves jobs and protecting their land. With great effort they built back then 4 well established shelters and a large house for kitchen and dining room, however buildings remained incomplete there at that early stage for many years as they had no more money to finish them or to establish a proper infrastructure to call it a first class jungle hotel. They wanted high quality facilities and accommodations, to provide an exclusive and personalized rain forest experience, intimate with nature, under a dedicated private and unique lodge, but only to a selected number of guests.
Finally in year 2000 after several local and international contacts the project was able to move forward and establish the community's and its nature tourism leaders dream. The community, entitled by its constitutional rights over their land, approached Ecuadorian Ministry of Environment which through its National Park service declared them honorific park rangers and approved the project signing a renewable management agreement of this territory part as well of the Yasuní Biosphere Reserve.
Departing from Quito, 30 minute flight to Coca over the eastern Andes mountain range. After landing, about mid morning, and airport procedures a 5 min transfer in local chiva (hired bus) or local taxi from airport to Port Francisco de Orellana will drive us to embark onto a comfortable covered motor boat. Here we start a canoe ride along the Napo river for about 2 hours approx, lunch box in route. Along the way birds like herons, kingfishers and others can be spotted. After arriving at NWC's entry dock we disembark for restroom then take a majestic and peaceful 1 to 2 hours dugout canoe ride surrounded by trees overhead, paddling along a narrow creek that connects to the lake where the lodge is located. Good possibilities of monkey sights of various species as well as large birds like toucans, parrots or even macaws. Late afternoon arrival to the NWC lodge by the overwhelming view of the Añangu lake, welcome drink and facilities.

Day 10
Activities at Napo Wildlife Center

A total of 11 species of parrots, parakeets and macaws can be seen. A visit that depends on weather conditions, but usually successful. Later, hike along forest trail to visit to the Kichwa community of Añangu and sharing time with a family on their activities. Return to the creek and hike through a Terra Firme Forest for about 30 minutes until we arrive to the second parrot clay lick where if the weather conditions help will be able to find different species of parrots, parakeets and even macaws. Lunch box served at the parrot clay lick observatory. Late afternoon arrival to the lodge.

A 36m high canopy tower opened to guests in November 2004, a great way to experience the life above the forest floor. This is the second tower at the Napo Wildlife Center (the first is attached to the dining hall and allows great views of the lake).
The tower is located about 30 minutes from the lodge deep within the terra firme forest. As you ascend the 12-floor tower, you pass through different levels of the forest and emerge on top of a huge Ceiba tree.
Here you cross onto a wooden platform that is actually built into the tree and experience the view formerly reserved only for the birds. The metal tower itself was
constructed to the highest standards, galvanized, and carefully inspected by engineers. Safety is the priority. The platform at the top of the tree was constructed by tree platform specialists as well. From top to bottom, there is no finer canopy experience in Eastern Ecuador. Flocks of colorful tanagers pass right through the canopy of the tree, Blue-and yellow Macaws fly past, in nearby trees Spider Monkeys search for fruit, two species of large toucans call in the early mornings and afternoons, and the life of the forest canopy opens before you. Birds that are virtually impossible to see from the forest floor far below are suddenly right beside you, oblivious to your presence. The canopy tower opens a whole new world to guests of the Napo Wildlife Center!! Lunch served at the lodge.
Afternoon visit to a terra firme trail, hike along primary forest to discover the forest interior, possibilities of findinglizards, colorful manakins or the unique and endemic Golden mantle tamarinmonkeys.
